TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt has earned its success this season.
When they lost Kanak Jha over the offseason, nobody expected Bergneustadt to contend for a postseason spot. Now, they sit as Table Tennis Bundesliga's third-seeded team, with a 4-2 record and excellent play from Benedikt Duda and Adrien Rassenfosse.
But they're not untouchable. They've got several foes ready to snatch that coveted top four spot for themselves. And tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. EST, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell will have Bergneustadt in its crosshairs.
Fulda-Maberzell's seat at the standings table isn't nearly as comfortable. They currently look up at Schwalbe from their spot as the league's fifth seed, the top ranking that would miss the postseason if it started today.
But from a record perspective, these two teams are at eye level. Fulda-Maberzell also boasts a 4-2 record, and a win tomorrow could propel them past Bergneustadt in the standings. And if Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Fanbo Meng, or Jonathan Groth has a great match, Bergneustadt might have to worry about moving downstairs.
