It wasn't even a year ago when TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen won the German Table Tennis Cup. Fans still remember when Ochsenhausen knocked out 1. FC Saarbrücken - TT in the tournament's final match, and they can still remember the smiles on the players' faces when they hoisted that trophy.
Some of those players are no longer with Ochsenhausen. Especially their most important pieces. Hugo Calderano left Table Tennis Bundesliga, as did Simon Gauzy. Ochsenhausen is still in contention for another German Table Tennis Cup as the quarterfinals begin, but that journey will be much more difficult than it was last year.
But they've still got the bones of a team that can still contend for another trophy. Shunsuke Togami is still here. Tiago Abiodun hasn't gone anywhere. And after adding Andreas Levenko and Iulian Chirita over the offseason, Ochsenhausen still carries a strong roster with them.
Is that roster enough for Ochsenhausen to repeat as champions? Today's match against Post SV Mühlhausen will answer that question. And Mühlhausen's core of Ovidiu Ionescu, Steffen Mengel and Ivo Quett will do whatever it takes to stop them.
