SPINDEX's 2.0 update introduces a confidence level, challenge matches, and more.

SPINDEX, Major League Table Tennis’s official rating service, has announced the release of its 2.0 update.

The update adds a confidence level to SPINDEX’s rating system, which shows how accurate a given rating is on a percentage scale.

“The SPINDEX rating is how good you are,” said Mimi Bosika, MLTT’s Senior Vice President of Competition. “The confidence level is how much we can trust that number.”

All confidence levels start at a baseline of zero upon creation of a SPINDEX account. Confidence levels increase with matches played and decrease with inactivity.

Confidence levels take into account factors such as how often the player plays, when they last competed, and the number of unique opponents they have faced. These factors aid in providing context to a player’s SPINDEX score, as well as allowing players to more accurately assess an opponent’s skill level.

“You get a full picture of how good somebody is and how much you can believe that they’re good,” Bosika said.

SPINDEX 2.0 also introduces SPINDEX Challenge Matches, an official way to impact your rating without playing in a sanctioned match. Two people with SPINDEX accounts can challenge one another to a match,

Other new features of SPINDEX 2.0 include a calculator that previews the change in ratings following a match, and a method to register using a different rating.

SPINDEX, which stands for Standardized Pong Index, is a table tennis rating system that aims to assess players’ skill level on a global scale. The system was developed by Major League Table Tennis, and was released for the first time in 2025.

Anyone can create a free SPINDEX account on spindextt.com, regardless of skill level.
