New York Slice superstar Koki Niwa will miss Sunday’s match against the Los Angeles Spinners due to a fever, league sources tell Table Tennis TV.
Sunday’s match will be the first match that Niwa will miss all season. Wenzhang Tao will take Niwa’s place in Singles 1, and he will play alongside Jishan Liang in Doubles.
Niwa led off in both of the Slice’s prior two matches, and he lost all of his games against Bay Area’s Jinbao Ma on Friday and Atlanta’s Kayama Yu on Saturday. For the season, Niwa has a singles record of 15-18 (45.5%), a doubles record of 7-8 (46.7%) and a Golden Game percentage of 45%.
The Slice selected Niwa with the second pick in the 2025 MLTT Draft, nearly five years after winning his second Olympic medal. In his first season with the Slice, Niwa has played a key role in giving the Slice a 7-4 record and 116 points.
The Slice will play against the Los Angeles Spinners on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. EST. You can watch this match on tabletennis.tv, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
