Texas Smash captain David McBeath (SPINDEX: 2700) will miss his team’s Week 12 matches in Pleasanton, Calif., due to the birth of his second child, Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) sources tell Table Tennis TV.
Free agent Daryl Tsao (2250) will replace McBeath on the Smash’s active roster. Hiromitsu Kasahara (2769) will take over as team captain and acting coach for the Smash’s final three matches of their regular season.
The Smash have been without head coach Jorg Bitzigeio since Week 1, who has been providing guidance and organizing lineups virtually through McBeath. All coaching decisions this weekend will be made through Kasahara instead.
McBeath has a Singles percentage of 53.3% (8-7), a doubles percentage of 55.6% (10-8) and a Golden Game percentage of 50.6% (43-42). His power rating of 712.8 makes him the league’s No. 25 player on its official rankings list.
Tsao played for the Smash during Season 2, the same team he made his Season 3 debut for as a free agent during Week 12 in Houston. He played in three doubles games for the Smash that weekend alongside Guodong Liang (2680), and together they finished with one win and two losses (33.3%) against Carolina’s Enzo Angles (2763) and Kai Zhang (2621).
Though the Smash will miss McBeath, they welcome back Amy Wang (2593) and Nandan Naresh (2693). Both players missed the Smash’s Week 11 matches in Houston due to their participation in ITTF Americas Cup San Francisco 2026.
The Smash currently sit as the third seed in the West Division with a 7-8 record and 161 points. They trail only the Portland Paddlers (10-2, 169 points) and the Chicago Wind with just three matches left to go.
In those final three matches, the Smash will play the Carolina Gold Rush at 7 p.m. EST on Friday, the Bay Area Blasters at 10:30 p.m. EST on Saturday and the Princeton Revolution at 2 p.m. EST on Sunday. All three matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV.
