China's Wang Chuqin on his way to winning WTT Champions Macao 2025 (World Table Tennis).

None of the world’s greatest table tennis players could stop China’s Wang Chuqin (Men’s Singles No. 2) from winning WTT Champions Macao 2025.

Not even Brazil’s Hugo Calderano (No. 4), who fell to Wang in just four games during the final round of the men’s singles tournament on Sunday. This triumph earns Wang his second WTT Champions title of 2025 (WTT Champions Chongqing 2025), and it gives him the third WTT Champions Macao trophy of his career (2022, 2023).

Both of these top-five players have earned dominant wins over their opponents throughout this tournament. Wang swept Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yun-Ju (No. 11) and Korea’s Jang Woo-jin (No. 28) in back-to-back rounds before the finals match. Calderano came off a semifinal sweep of Denmark’s Anders Lind (No. 19), who upset top-ranked Lin Shidong in the quarterfinal round.

These two players have nowfaced off in Macao four times, with Wang winning two of their three prior matchups. Their most recent battle in Macao before this match was the semifinal round of the ITTF Men’s World Cup 2025 in April, when Calderano defeated Wang before becoming the first player from the Americas to win the Men's World Cup.

Calderano put up a very convincing fight in the first game of their WTT Champions Macao 2025 match, but Wang prevailed 11-9. Wang took stronger control of the next game, winning 11-7 without ever trailing Calderano.

A five-point run from Calderano in the third game put the Brazilian up 7-5 by the 12th point played, but Wang recovered to earn himself another 11-9 victory. The fourth and final game began with a competitive 3-2 score at the fifth point until Wang scored five straight points to establish a firm lead.

After giving up just two more points, Wang completed his third straight sweep of this tournament with an 11-4 victory in the fourth game.

Wang adds another accolade to his outstanding season, which includes victories at the United States Smash 2025, ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2025 and WTT Champions Chongqing 2025. His resume also includes a finals appearance at WTT Champions Yokohama 2025 and semifinal appearances in Singapore Smash 2025 and the ITTF Men’s World Cup Macao 2025.

Wang and Calderano will compete in WTT’s next major event, China Smash 2025. The event will run from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5 at Shougang Park in Beijing, China.
