Romain Ruiz and TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the club announced in a press release on Monday.

The 28-year-old Frenchman becomes the second player to extend with Bergneustadt this season, following the club’s extension of superstar Benedikt Duda (Bundesliga No. 1) in December. Both contracts will expire in 2028.

Ruiz holds an individual record of 11:6 with a point differential of +5, which makes him the Bundesliga’s No. 13 player. His biggest victory this season came against 1. FC Saarbrücken - TT’s Fan Zhendong (Bundesliga No. 6), but he also defeated ASC Grünwettersbach's Tiago Apolonia (No. 12), TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov (No. 14) and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen’s Iulian Chirita (No. 22) this year.

Ruiz became the first French player to ever sign with Bergneustadt when the club acquired him from French Pro A club Stella Sport La Romagne in 2022. He was 24 years old when he joined Bergneustadt, and this new deal will keep him there until his age-30 season.

Ruiz’s extension ensures that both Berngeustadt will keep both of its Top 15 players for the next two seasons. Ruiz and Duda currently make up one half of Bergneustadt's roster alongside Adrien Rassenfosse (No. 68) and Leo de Nodrest (No. 41), the latter of whom will return to the club next season.

Bergneustadt sits as the Bundesliga’s fourth seed with an 11-6 record and a point differential of 22:12. They are two matches ahead of fifth-place TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (9-8, 18:16) and one behind third-place Saarbrücken.

Bergneustadt will play its next match on March 15 against TSV Bad Königshofen.
