Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) announced the dates and location for its third Championship Weekend on Wednesday.
The league’s third champion will be decided at Table Tennis America (TTA) in Fremont, Calif., from April 18-19. Two matches will take place on each day.
“We’re excited to bring our top teams to Fremont and deliver a championship experience worthy of the momentum MLTT has built this season,” MLTT commissioner Flint Lane said in a press release.
Championship Weekend serves as the league’s official postseason tournament, which the top two teams in each division at the end of Season 3 will qualify for. Each division’s two representatives will face one another in the semifinal round, which will take place on April 18.
The winners of each division will advance to the championship match on April 19, and the losers will compete in a consolation match on the same day.
The first semifinal match on April 18 will start at 4 p.m. EST, and the second will begin at 7:30 p.m. Similarly, the league will hold its consolation match at 4 p.m. EST on April 19, just before the championship match starts at 7:30 p.m. EST.
The Texas Smash beat the Princeton Revolution in the league’s first-ever Championship Weekend, which was held in Chicago. The next season, the Carolina Gold Rush took home the trophy after beating the Smash during Season 2’s Championship Weekend in Philadelphia.
This will be the third time that the Bay Area will host Major League Table Tennis for a weekend this season, the most of any location this season. The league held its first week at Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Calif., from Sept. 5-7, and it will return there for Week 12 from Feb. 13-15.
“Championship Weekend is the moment we build toward all season,” Lane said, “And the Bay Area is the perfect place to host it.”
All four Championship Weekend matches will be streamed live on Table Tennis TV, which can be accessed on TableTennis.TV, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. Tickets can be purchased on the league’s official website.
